When to go
Canada runs on seasons, and backpacking is no exception. Shoulder season — late spring and early autumn — buys you thinner crowds, cheaper beds, and weather that still cooperates most days.

What it costs
Budget honestly. Domestic flights are the single biggest line item in this country; buses and rideshares close the gaps for a fraction. Beyond transport, backpacking costs less here than most travellers expect once you're outside the downtown core.

Practical info
Pack for two seasons in one day, carry a card and a little cash, and download offline maps before you leave cell coverage — most of the good stuff is outside it.
